A Notary Public is a government appointed law officer authorised to perform certain notary services, including drawing, witnessing, certifying, and verifying international documents required for use overseas.
Legal documents notarised by a public notary often require Apostille or Authentication Certificates which validates the seal and signature of the public notary notarising a document.
A Notary Public “protests” bills of exchange (usually cheques or promissory notes). By drawing up a formal Statement on behalf of a creditor under the Public Notary’s seal and signature, declaring that a debtor has refused to accept or honour a bill of exchange on its presentation for payment.
Public Notaries also administer oaths in respect of affidavits and statutory declarations for use within Australia and perform the function of a Ship’s Protest.
